A truly fantastic day’s riding awaits us today. After a tasty breakfast where you will be introduced to your designated horse and get to spend the day getting to know each other. This day also gives the chance for any adjustments or requests to be made. Everyone is always buzzing on the first day of the ride and without fail, every rider falls in love with the spirited Marwari horses, their gentle nature, and their forward going, eager pace.

You will be taken from the private stables astride one of the most responsive horses you will ever ride. Together you will make your way around the local town where you will experience lanes filled with colourful street traders, groups of smiling, waving school children; herds of goats, wild cows, donkey pulling carts and water buffalo, all mingling along the same streets. You will pass beautiful temples, ancient wells and watering holes as you progress out into the local fields where the scent of exotic wild flowers fills the air. All of this from the elevated position on the  back of your beautiful, sure footed partner.

Accommodation will again be the magnificent Dundlod Fort.

Today we say goodbye to the fort as we head North for an outstanding day of riding to Mandawa.  The route takes us across soft, sandy terrain, through numerous small local villages; along winding tracks through farmland and crops of millet, still largely cultivated by hand.

Today is our first ‘picnic’ style lunch and you won’t be disappointed!  As the Mercury starts rising we shall stop in the shade to give ourselves and the horses a rest. The support truck providing a delicious hot lunch of curry, dal, chapattis and  chutneys meet us and, after a good feed and a chance to rest, we shall jump back in the saddle and head onwards to the turreted Castle Mandawa; our home for the night.

Accommodation will be in a luxurious Castle with large bedrooms and a/c.

Mandawa is a remote feudal principality, once a trading outpost for he ancient caravan routes from China. We shall be following in the footsteps of these traders as we leave Mandawa and head for the old fashioned and charming town of Nawalgarh. Passing farmsteads and millet fields today’s ride will take us across historic battelfields and you will see fields of peanuts grown as fodder for the animals. Along the dusty trails you may see camels, bluebull antelope, herds of valuable goats (referred to as mutton on the menu in India) and if you are very lucky a double ended snake with 2 heads (Yes they exist and no we don’t understand it either). Despite the hot weather this Horse Trek Holidays trek is not just about hacking & admiring the view. You will definitely be able to put these exceptional horses through their paces and can look forward to galloping through the countryside colliding head on with the heat of the day, as the breeze blows your  hair from your face. As on each day of your ride, top quality hot & cold food shall be provided by the support team to keep you fully refreshed throughout.

Accommodation Tonight you will be transferred to Roop Niwas palace, where the impressive traditional design is enhanced by the beautiful gardens and cooling cloistered courtyard; ideal to sit out and watch the evening sky turn to a star-filled midnight blue.

Heading South the scenary changes drastically today. The riding takes us close to the Aravali Mountains, the oldest fold mountains in India. Running spinelike for some 500km they cross the states of Gujaral and Rajasthan, before becoming a series of hills and ridges ending in Delhi. Wooded valleys, and dry uplands stretch high up the slopes, playing host to a variety of exotic plants and animals including acacia trees, monkeys and Nilgai (Blue Bulls). Keep your eyes open! Our trail takes us along a winding, dry river bed alongside the hills and through wooded paths leading eventually to a small temple, near which we set up camp. Tonight is our first night under canvas and will be a night to remember for all the right reasons.

Accommodation camping in style!

The highlight of the day however is the spectacle of Sambha, India’s largest inland salt water lake . The lake a designated an area of international ecological importance, provides wintering for over 10,000 of flamingos each year, alongside many other migratory birds. The surrounding forests also offer a home to deer, foxes and Nilgai ( blue bull antelope). The algae in the waters cause striking changes in colour as well as supporting the ecology of the lake.

Accommodation Tonight we camp out again near the village of Kocher, and prepare ourselves for tomorrow and our final day of riding.

Our last day with the horses; we ride alongside the huge lake, crossing a spectacular landscape, littered with ancient forts, rocky outcrops and sand dunes. This all lies beneath a cobalt sky where eagles spiral on the thermals and the sands shimmer in the heat.
