Everyone here at Horse Trek Holidays is obviously horse-mad and loves anything on four hooves. From the very beginning it has always been extremely important to us that we use our riding holidays to give back to the equine community. Which is why we have made a commitment to Brooke India that we will donate a percentage from each and every ride to help the working horses, donkeys and mules of India.
Founder, Dorothy Brooke, traveled to Cairo in 1930 to seek out the abandoned horses of the First World War. With help from the British Public, she raised enough money to buy back 5,000 horses and set up the Old War Horse Memorial, which later became Brooke. Brooke’s mission is to transform the lives of working equines around the world by relieving their immediate suffering and creating lasting change by working with people, communities & organisations. Brooke now reaches 2 million animals each year.
“The visit to India really opened my eyes to the welfare problems that exist amongst working equines.

Monty Roberts, Global Ambassador for Brooke.
Brooke India is an affiliate of Brooke & was established in 1992. There are approximately 1.2 million working equines in India, each supporting an average of 6 people. Brooke India is playing a vital role in improving the quality of veterinary hospitals, dispensaries and mobile treatment facilities which, until recently, were under resourced and ill-equipped
